When the Method Works Almost Too Well

I just wanted to share with you a funny success I had. My 3-year-old gelding did not like to cross puddles of water. He would not go in the water for love or money. I used the exercises Lunging for Respect Stages 1 and 2. He only was rewarded for trying, and his feet were moved when he resisted. After some time, he was comfortable going in the water. I did the same thing under saddle. The funny thing was he didn’t want to leave the water. When we came near the water, he wanted to go in to avoid work, so I had to teach him not to go in the water. The technique worked almost too well!
