Problem Solving Help: Fresh Horses

0427_01

If you haven’t ridden your horse in a while, it’s likely that he’ll be fresh the first time you go to ride him. Fresh horses have an abundance of energy that needs to be directed in a constructive manner. “If your horse has had extended time off, don’t pull him out of the barn, saddle him up and get straight on him. That’s a good way to get bucked off,” Clinton says. “Instead, prepare him to go back to work by doing groundwork with him. That’ll help work off his excess energy and get him to tune in to you.”

If you’re dealing with a fresh horse, Clinton shares tips on how to correct your horse’s behavior in the Problem Solving section of the Downunder Horsemanship app. Learn how to safely handle the situation in the FREE video: Fresh Horses.
